Special Letter from Bruce Ehrlich, President of Mind Media

Dear Valued Customer,

Sixteen years ago this month, I published a twenty-page catalog-
digest-sized, black-and-white-with-color cover-filled with a variety
of software programs. The catalog was mailed on April 30th, 1989 and
this special sale will go until April 30th 2005 to commemorate that
date.

Each of the software and other computer products in the digest sized
catalog had one thing in common. Here is how my later described this
new kind of use for the PC (and Mac).

The world of personal computers is witnessing the arrival of a new
genre of software-software vastly different from the familiar word
processors, spreadsheets, databases and games. We call these new
programs "mindware" instead of crunching numbers or crafting words,
these "mind-appliances" help us to think better, feel better and be
more creative.

In the rest of the letter, I gave people a "tour" of the catalog and
its products. The titles included The Idea Generator from Experience-
In-Software, The Lucher Profile from Mindscape and a repackaged
version of Mind Prober (which later became Mindviewer)_called Dr.
Shrink from Neurolytic Systems. I then concluded by saying

Mindware was conceived and created to be more than just a business we
sincerely believe that all of us can benefit from a synthesis of
psychology and technology. It is our goal to serve as the central
source for these revolutionary mind-appliances-to put the
transformational technologies of mindware to work for you!

The fifteen-year road from the beginning of our mission has been
filled with unexpected twists and turns. The catalog grew in
popularity as the computer industry changed rapidly according to
Moore's Law. As the speed of the processor increased by double every
eighteen months, so did software improve in its interface and power.
From April 1988 when we published the first Mindware Catalog, to July
1994 when the last paper catalog was printed-and we made decision to
take the Mindware catalog online-we published ten catalogs. The last
catalog, a full-size color thirty-two-page catalog, had ten times the
number of products as the first, and we printed and mailed a half
million catalogs total. Postage was real expensive that year.

We were one of the first companies to embrace the Internet wave but,
unlike others, we survived when the wave broke on the shore of
financial reason. Unlike other catalogs, we chose to remain small,
not a lot of investment capital and popping like a balloon.Instead we
chose the path of growing organically, letting the technology lead us
rather than the other way around. We became the Mind Media Life-
Enhancement Network with our goal to be the conduit for the ever-
expanding number of products and services for self-improvement and
personal development.

We were excited when applications that ran on the web began to
supplement the larger number of programs that had been developed to
be installed on your machine at home. They offer us the ability to
transcend the Tower of Babel split between computers that run on
Windows, that run on Macintosh, and those that run on Linux and many
others platforms too numerous to mention. In this way, we can launch
a product for all of you at the same time rather than have to develop
a different version for each computer.
